Empathy In The World

The virtue of empathy is at the core of human progress and self-actualization. The absence of which in an individual or society inevitably translates into chaotic behavior and traits. This is particularly why at every turning point in the development of the individual; this virtue plays a critical role in ensuring a complete and refined human being.
Think about this for a moment; every human being, regardless of other personal traits, feels a sense of fulfillment and serenity at the moment they exercise empathy and see the impact it has upon another individual or living creature.
Furthermore, empathy is consistently correlated with increased levels of happiness and personal fulfillment. This is precisely why cultivating empathy within our world is central to building healthy individuals and ultimately healthy societies.
Empathy In Relationships:
Any healthy relationship is built around elements of trust, transparency and communication. Central to all of those elements coming together is a strong sense of respect and empathy for one another, without which it’s easy to develop gaps that become irreparable.
Shortcomings, inadequacies and mistakes are a common feature in any relationship. However, the key component which allows us to overlook those things is rooted in the idea of exercising empathy and understanding the need to better appreciate one another’s perspectives. This is why exercising mercy and compassion always trump the exercise of justice. One is rooted in forgiveness, understanding and appreciation, while the other is rooted in wanting to right the wrongs.
This is an elementary piece to successful relationships and can be exercised in every time of human relationships; marriage, parents, siblings and friendships.
Empathy In Society:
The health of a society and its citizens is proportional to how its most vulnerable people are treated. In this regard, the abused, the homeless, the marginalized and other groups that are stigmatized in our society. It’s quite easy for us to ignore those who are vulnerable but that is precisely what we should be measured on – is how empathetic and compassionate we are to those who we are least likely to help.
In this regard – it becomes absolutely essential to cultivate empathy within every element of our young children, so they’re better prepared to support the most vulnerable segments of our population when they are in positions of influence.
